About the Okemo Valley Area

Vermont is a special place to live. Ludlow and surrounding communities that are the "Heart of the Okemo Valley" are diverse and unique.

LUDLOW

This little town bustles with activity on nearly a year round basis. Unique even to Vermont, Ludlow is the only town directly at the base of a ski mountain. Complete village amenities support Okemo Mountain Resort's legendary services.

Ludlow is a real town not just a quaint facade!

Walk down Main Street and you'll find a variety of wonderful places to stay, shop and dine. From nuts and bolts to specialty shops, Ludlow has everything you need and more.

The local elementary school and area high school are in the heart of the village as well as the Fletcher Memorial Library and Village Green. Dorsey Park has tennis courts, skateboard park, playground and Soccer/Ball field where locals support their school and league teams with great enthusiasm.

There are active churches throughout town, a museum, several health care facilities, Senior Center and many other service organizations imperative to town residents.

Ludlow citizens are very involved in their community and can often be found discussing the latest local hot topic throughout town, at community dinners and most certainly on town meeting day.

Ludlow offers a wide variety of real estate opportunities. On the mountain… condos, townhouses and single-family homes abound. In town there is a mix of quaint and stately homes available from the fixer upper to pristine. Outside the village North Hill and South Hill areas are where you will find many newer homes with spectacular views as well as older farmhouses with beautiful barns. Further out you will find miles of unpaved roads where vacation homes and year round residences of every description dot the countryside and undeveloped tracts of land both large and small can be found.

MOUNT HOLLY

Mount Holly is to the west of Ludlow and shares Okemo Mountain State Forest as a boundary. Mount Holly is home to Lake Ninevah, the Crowley Cheese Factory, the beautiful hamlet of Belmont and Star Lake. Mount Holly has a rich history with many local families having lived there for many generations. Mostly rural, Mount Holly has many country roads where hunting camps and elegant manors can be found tucked away side by side in the woods. There is an extensive snowmobile trail network due to the tireless efforts of private landowners and volunteers and the Green Mountain National Forest is a great place to hike and cross-country ski.

PLYMOUTH

Plymouth is to the north of Ludlow and is recognized as the home of President Calvin Coolidge where his home place gives all a glimpse of an earlier time. Plymouth and Ludlow share a chain of lakes formed by the Black River. These include Lake Amherst, Echo, Rescue and Pauline. All along these lakes is what used to be called summer camps and many quaint unpretentious older cottages coexist with newer cabins and luxury homes. Being convenient to both Killington and Okemo ski resorts…Plymouth is a prime location for those looking to be near both water and skiing.

CAVENDISH

Cavendish borders Ludlow to the east and two separate villages lie within its borders. Cavendish is home to Proctor Piper State Forest and Knapp Pond Wildlife Management area… a great place to see a moose! Cavendish has acres of beautiful valleys surrounded by hills and mountains that are postcard perfect. The Black River follows along Route 131 and provides many waysides to excellent fishing! Throughout Cavendish are "Snecked Ashlar Bond" stone houses built in the early 1800's. They are one of many different styles of homes from cape to Victorian found in this area.

ANDOVER/WESTON/CHESTER

Andover is where Terrible Mountain at 2900 ft. elevation is a well-known geographical feature. Between Weston and Chester and very convenient to Ludlow… Andover, without a village center, has become a desirable place to live for those seeking serenity. Scenic roads wind through forests and over ridge tops where gorgeous vistas can be admired.

Weston, to the west, is home to the Weston Playhouse and the Vermont Country Store. This quintessential Vermont village with art galleries, music camp and Priory is a cultural center. Weston has many beautifully preserved architectural treasures and is a beautiful place to visit and live!

Chester, east of Andover, is the closest community to I-91. The lovely village, nestled around a large village green, is a gateway to the Green Mountains and with convenient access to Ludlow, Springfield and all points south it's a great location for the commuter.

The surrounding communities of Shrewsbury, Reading, Weathersfield, Springfield, Londonderry and Wallingford are all within our listing area and we have several properties available in these beautiful and unique areas in addition to our core communities.

Let us use all our talents and resources to help you find which of these Vermont communities is right for you!

Real Estate Tips
Cosmetic Improvements >Interior Decorating

Many people recognize a decorating style they like when they see it, but they find it difficult to combine colors, fabrics, furnishings and window treatments to create the total finished look they want.

Where can you find a good decorator? If you like the interior of your friends' home, ask them for recommendations. Many communities have decorator showcases where you can see first hand the work of several local designers. Furniture retailers sometimes hire professionals to assist their customers.

Before you commit to working with a designer or decorator, sit down and discuss your taste and goals, their fee structure, and your budget. Pay particular attention to whether the person is an active listener and communicates well. Whether you are trying to make your home look wonderful in order to sell it or want to fix up a new home, the investment in professional advice can save you costly mistakes and make your home a reflection of your good taste.
